Yannis Tsarouchis. Studies for 17 themes
Benaki museum Pireos str. |

This is the first time that the oeuvre of Yannis Tsarouchis is approached and presented through studies and variations, unpublished photographs and original archival material, which the public rarely has an opportunity to observe and which belong to the valuable collections of the Yannis Tsarouchis Foundation.

The exhibition Yannis Tsarouchis: Studies for 17 themes records the painter’s creative process, when dealing with major themes, which engaged his interest from his youth to his mature years, through drawings, at times primitive and half-finished and at other times mature studies, even completed paintings.
Through emblematic series, including the Seasons, Sailors, Saint Sebastian, the Months, Bathers etc., the presentation sheds light on various stages of intellectual and artistic work, which led to his completion of a piece, as well as the examination and creative process that went into perfecting each of his masterpieces.
The exhibition thus decrypts the multifaceted oeuvre of one of the major figures of the thirties generation, through a particular angle, that of his studio work.

The exhibition was curated by Niki Grypari, Chairman of the Yannis Tsarouchis Foundation, and designed by Lily Pezanou.
