“The Lure of the Local: Women Artists in Canadian Land(scape)”

On behalf of the Vorres Museum, the Embassy of Canada is pleased to invite you to the opening of the innovative contemporary art exhibition The Lure of the Local: Women Artists in the Canadian Land(scape), which brings together for the first time in Greece works created by women artists from Canada’s non metropolitan northern regions. This unique display is a cross-generation collection of impressive works of art combining talent, energy and passion of established and upcoming artists.

The exhibition introduces us to exciting design, symbols and installations, representing the all-inclusive dynamic changes sweeping Canada’s vast countryside. The works seek to present alternate approaches to depicting the “land.” The artists share with the viewers “scenes of a land” that is the backdrop of their lives; they capture, re-create and share fragments of Canada, a poetics of a territory that is in constant change.

The contribution of the curator, Dr. Caterina Pizanias, was invaluable for its realization.

This event, with the support and cooperation of the Canadian Embassy and of philhellene Ambassador Robert W. Peck, is the closing cultural event of the year-long celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of Canada-Greece diplomatic relations, an anniversary which is a milestone of the longstanding friendship between the two countries.

Participating artists: Julie Cosgrove, Raina Enss, Sara Girletz, Jamie Gray, Kim Huynh, Andrea Kastner, Annie King, Eveline Kolijn, Galia Kwetny και Romy Straathof.

The artists and the curator will be Athens especially for the opening. An open discussion with the artists and the curator will take place on Saturday November 9, 12:00 – 14:00 hrs.
