Cultural

Fourteen artists strive to transcribe the issues raised in the academic symposium’s six thematic sections (Identity and Difference, Stories and History, Logos and Art, Democracy and Politeia, Science and Ethics, Quality of Life) into visual terms using contemporary media (video, electronic images and photographs, sound installations, animation, interactive works etc.). They will then attempt to provide their own answers to the issues arising from the symposium’s exploration and re-examination of the cultural heritage bequeathed by ancient to contemporary Greece. The result: fourteen new works especially created for the event, most of them based on new technologies. The works will be installed in public spaces (indoors and outdoors) so Athenians can happen upon them by chance. The programme seeks to facilitate these unexpected encounters with a view to startling the people who see them, arousing their interest and—why not?—stimulating public discussion.
