SUNDAYS WITH PUPPET THEATRE in cooperation with Unima Hellas

“PETROTSOULOUFIS, Stories for good adults and bad children” by Ayusaya Puppet Theatre

“PETROTSOULOUFIS” transfers the classic children’s book “Struwwelpeter” on stage in a contemporary manner, trying to be as close as possible to the original book and at the same time experiment with the relations of the modern audience with the dramaturgy of Hoffman’s characters and the contemporary puppetry art.

The performance uses two and three dimensional wooden marionettes (the puppeteers are in full view) for adult and children heroes respectively, which concentrate through humour and satire in the essence of what the book deals with: crime and punishment, fear of the adult world as well as the hypocrisy of the grown-ups towards their children.

The show consists of nine funny stories performed successively. The connecting point of all stories is that a child does something against its parents’ teachings and pays for his/her mistake…

The stories are being performed with the puppets “speaking” a minimalistic language while at the same time a musician-singer sings the verses of the book. After the show the audience can discuss about the performance and explore the puppets in close contact.

The production was funded by the National Theatre and Dance Centre and has been performed in festivals and theatres in Greece and Cyprus.
