In collaboration with the School of English Language and Literature, the School of Drama, the Teloglion Foundation of Art at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Pinter Centre at Goldsmiths, we have great pleasure in inviting you to the world of renowned UK playwright, Harold Pinter, through a unique performance of Pinter: In Other Rooms.

The production consists of seven short plays by the Nobel prize winning playwright (Party TimeThe ExaminationPress Conference,Mountain LanguageNightVictoria Station and A New World Order) and is performed as an integrated evening, rather than as a revue of plays, devised by director, playwright and critic Robert Gordon.

Τhe performance locates audiences in the world of the above plays, transforming party venues into secret places of interrogation and torture or intimate spaces that reveal conversations that are by turn; funny, sinister, absurd and shocking.

It introduces significant aspects of Pinter’s work that up to now have been familiar only to Pinter scholars, revealing a number of masterpieces (Party TimeVictoria StationThe ExaminationNight) that have rarely been performed outside the university circuit and presenting a number of Pinter’s later works seldom seen anywhere outside London.

The college-based Pinter Centre for Performance and Creative Writingwas formally inaugurated in June 2003, with Harold Pinter as Honorary President. The Pinter Centre initiates and promotes research into all aspects of the theory and practice of creative writing and performance.

Pinter: In Other Rooms is funded by a grant from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) for the Pinter Centre research project, Beyond the Linear Narrative. It is directed by David Peimer and Robert Gordon, who has also devised the performance’s script.

As part of the performance, don’t miss the round-table discussion on Pinter’s playwriting, facilitated by Professor Elsi Sakellaridou, dramatist, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with the participation of: Robert Gordon (director of Pinter: In Other Rooms), Dr Tonia Tsamouri (Dramatist) and Xenia Aidonopoulou (PhD candidate in Drama).
