International Museum Day/ Events in Athens

The International Museum Day is celebrated worldwide on May 18th. This year in Athens there are a number of events going on in the museums of the city. The motto this year is for museums to become cultural exchange mediums in order to promote education, mutual understanding and cooperation among nations. For 2015 the International Council of Museums has chosen the title “Museums for a Sustainable Society” aiming at promoting the idea of a society open to cooperation, respecting ecosystems and consuming less.
The honored Museum this year in Athens is the Industrial Gas Museum in Technopolis, where a number of events will take place from May 15th to May 24th, 2015. The main event will take place on Monday, May 18th, 2015 at 19.00 with talks, Museum tours as well as screenings and a music concert.
May 22nd – 23rd: A two day event with title: “Digital sustainability. New developments for museums and cultural organizations”

May 23 – 24th: A competition for dramatization of fairy tales for ages 5-12 focusing on the old Gas Factory
May 23rd: The Museum will be joining forces with Atenistas and they will organize a tour for blind people and short sighted people
May 24th: an outdoor workshop for families with children 5-13 by the Museum of Children’s Art
