European day of languages

Educational institutions and Embassies from 13 European countries, including Norway, have come together to celebrate this year’s European Day of Language through an online competition and a multi-activity event on Saturday 21 September at Klafthmonos Square.

The general objective of the European Day of Languages is to alert the public to the importance of language learning and diversify the range of languages learned in order to increase multilingualism and intercultural understanding; promote the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe; encourage lifelong language learning in and out of school.

This year 13 educational Institutions and Embassies, under the umbrella of EUNIC will celebrate this day together. An online competition sending you to all of the member’s websites to answer questions pertaining to the respective countries gives you the chance to be one of the winners for a language course at the British Council, the French Institute, Goethe, the Italian Institute or Cervantes. On Saturday 21 September (10.00 -17.00) and in cooperation with the Municipality of Athens (Organisation for Culture, Sports and Youth), all 13 countries will be present at a celebration at Klafthmonos Square, where the public will be able to get information and join a wonderful program which will include music, dance, model lessons with a twist, and storytelling. Through this event we wish to give the public a small taste of the languages and culture of all countries involved. The young visitors will be able to join the treasure hunt which will give them the opportunity to win gifts at the event.
