Three multidimensional contemporary jazz musicians and their efforts in a studio session in 2006, formed the foundation of music initiative and shape “Tarbaby”. A term course that has a strong political connotation and meaning for color artists.

Drummer Nahseet Waits, bassist Eric Revis and pianist Orrin Evans started moving the Tarbaby, wanted to take advantage of every moment will offer this cooperation and the excellent chemistry. Through a process of creating a free music collective, broaden the movement and with other musicians (Oliver Lake, JD Allen, etc) facing the music in the same way, so they see the many versions it offers, without restrictions, without stylistic boundaries.

The brilliant pianist Orrin Evans is on top of modern jazz on the new generation. It has been 6 solo albums as a bandleader and tenure alongside Pharoah Sanders, the Roy Hargrove, the Branford Marsalis, Ravi Coltrane but in and Mos Def, and is the pianist of the famous Mingus Big Band since 2007.

The polyrhythmic drummer Nasheet Waits, mentor and tutor with the great Max Roach, is a very special musician. Permanent member of the band Bandwagon Jason Moran, has teamed up with Ron Carter, the Joshua Redman, the Jackie McLean, the Andrew Hill, the Peter Brotzmann and Dave Douglas. Besides the project Tarbaby, Waits toured the world and with its own shape, its Equality.

But here she meets the famous bassist Eric Revis, and old friend and fellow student of Ellis Marsalis in New Orleans. The Revis got into the deep waters of the great jazz, going to New York and thitefontas beside the legendary Betty Carter for about 3 years. Since 1997 he is a permanent member of the Branford Marsalis Quartet and the Tain Watts formed the rhythm section … hard for Marsalis of years and through this partnership became a member of an award winning band! Alongside worked with Steve Coleman, the Kurt Rosenwinkel and many others. Already 3 solo albums as leader while the fourth is expected very soon.

With these three distinct musicians then, did this ever expanding state and organic music “adventure” with its myriad incarnations as it progresses is the Tarbaby! With a namesake title released by Imani Records debut album shape in 2007 and received excellent reviews from critics.

The band continued to “souingkarei” jazz scene in new fields harmonious and melodic freedom with their second album in 2010, with the characteristic title «The End of Fear»! In this album also impressed critics, worked with them outside of Oliver Lake and JD Allen and Nicholas Payton. The … “End of Fear” is an extraordinary journey from the roots of jazz and through the modern era, the future of music, while members of the band seems to have left him … fear and inhibitions, long behind them!

Coming to Half Note Jazz Club from 11 to 14 April, three charismatic these guys, show us ways … beyond fear, where there’s music creative improvisation without clichés, where lies the real communion!
