«In the whole of Andalucia… everyone constantly talks about duende and they invariably recognize it when it appears». (Federico Garcia Lorca)

Duende, a word which is part of Andalucian folklore but one which is difficult to directly translate, is at the heart of the new record and the live performance by Eleni Peta and guitar virtuoso Panayiotis Margaris which is to be presented at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation on Saturday May 14.

Duende is feeling, passion, the inexplicable elation which the arts can produce; whether it’s dance, music or song.

It’s that mystical passion that Eleni Peta and Panayiotis Margaris are bringing to life through Duende, through their choice of some of the most memorable tracks from the international songbook. Songs by Madredeus, Joan Baez, Astor Piazzolla, The Police, Amalia Rodrigues, The Kinks, Ishtar, Christophe meet songs from Eleni’s personal discography and all time Greek classics from Manos Hatzidakis, Mikis Theodorakis, George Andreou etc.

Familiar melodies presented in a new light, come together in perfect harmony with Eleni’s mesmerizing vocals and Panayiotis’ unique performance style and technique. Melodies which take the listener on a journey of discovery to a place where you find darkness and light, East and West in equal measure.

After the 2 successful shows with Al Di Meola, one of the most established songwriters and performers of the international jazz, flamenco and tango scenes, Eleni and Panayiotis are taking Duende on the road. With the addition of a live band, they have been receiving stellar reviews and enthusiastic receptions everywhere they’ve been so far. Not to be missed
