“Concert-tribute to Ionian Island composers”
City of Athens |

The City of Athens Music Ensembles is organizing a special concert, under the auspices of the City of Athens, on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the Athens Concert Hall (Christos Lambrakis Hall) at 21:00. This is a major event dedicated to Ionian Island composers: Spiridon Xindas, Pavlos Karrer, Dionysios Lavragas, Yiorgos Lambelet, Nikolaos Halikiopoulos-Mantzaros and Spiridon Samaras.

The Symphony Orchestra and Mixed Choir of the Ensembles, with the collaboration of the Philarmonic Society of Corfu and internationally renowned mezzo-soprano Marita Paparizou, will perform extracts from the works of Ionian island composers for the first time. The presentation and narration of the works will be done by beloved actor Ilias Logothetis and journalist/writer Aggelos Piriohos. This is an event that could not take place without the assistance and contribution of renowned and distinguished musicologist-music critic Mr. Yiorgos Leotsakos. His valuable archive collection contains rare footage, some of which will be presented for the first time. Mr. Leotsakos will also oversee the presentation of the texts that refer to the composers and their works.

Conductor of the Mixed Choir is Stavros Beris, while City of Athens Music Ensembles Chairman and Composer Yiorgos Katsaros will conduct from the Symphony Orchestra’s podium.
