Our next guided tour: Ancient Agora, Stoa Attalou, and Thission

Dearest friends,

Now that the weather is (hopefully…) getting better,we are planning our next guided tour with our amazing guide Elli out in the open!
We are going to Ancient Agora*, Stoa Attalou**,and Thission on the 9/05.

*The Agora was the heart of ancient Athens, the focus of political, commercial, administrative and social activity, the religious and cultural centre, and the seat of justice.

The site was occupied without interruption in all periods of the city’s history. It was used as a residential and burial area as early as the Late Neolithic period (3000 B.C.). Early in the 6th century, in the time of Solon, the Agora became a public area.

The Museum of the Ancient Agora is organized in chronological and thematic units that reveal aspects of the public and private life in ancient Athens.

The earliest antiquities, potsherds, vases, terracotta figurines and weapons, dating from the Neolothic , Bronze Age, Iron Age and Geometric period, come from wells and tombs excavated in the area of the Athenian Agora and its environs.

**The Stoa of Attalos was a place for Athenians to meet, walk, and to do business. It was destroyed by the Heruli in A.D. 267, and its members were incorporated into the Late Roman Wall. The restoration, based on studies by the architect Yannis Travlos, was carried out in 1953-1956 by the American School of Classical Studies

Dearest friends, WE ARE SO HAPPY !!!

Remember when I told you about a surprise we were preparing for you ?

Well, it looks like we can make it AT LAST!

You will all-and we mean AAAAAALL- have the chance to watch “MIKRA ANGLIA”, a multi award-winning film by Pandelis Voulgaris based on the book Mikra Anglia by Ioanna Karystiani. with English subtitles!

You will be the only ones to see the film with English subtitles at a cinema, as we have managed to get the rights from the company !
On top of that, you will see it at an open-air cinema in the Chora of Andros that will open exclusively for us.

Why we want you to see this film? Because when we saw it,we thought that it’s a must-see,we absolutely adored it !

Imagine seeing this film where it was made and being in the atmosphere !

There will also be a tour in Chora guided by a local very knowledgeable guide, and of course plenty of time afterwards to stroll the streets and lanes of a unique island town, try the local cuisine and take photographs.

Mark the dates: Saturday 31/05 & Sunday 01/06, and details will come very soon !

We are so HAPPY that our “little”dream is coming true !!!

Epidavros event: “a unique experience”

Dearest friends,

We came back on Saturday from a lovely 2-day trip to Epidavros and we would like to tell you about it, so that you make sure you join next time.

As we had already told you before, the plan was to prepare the play beforehand and this is what we did on Thursday evening. We had a little something to eat, we read-or better, role – played – Lysistrati, which was a very amusing and useful activity for a number of reasons: we got familiar with the play that we were going to see the following day; people got a chance to unfold talents we never thought they had – some of them are born actors-; and, last but not least, they met and got together with new people!

On Friday at around 17.00 we set off for Epidavros. It took nearly 2 hours, we had something to eat at the restaurant outside the theatre (very good food!) and then we went into the theatre and saw the play. We absolutely loved it and, having read it, it was a lot easier to follow. After the theatre we drove to Nafplio where we had booked a hotel to spend the night.

The next day we visited a photo exhibition with works of Fred Boissonas and saw photos of Greece at the beginning of the 20th century. Then we had delicious ice cream at one of the best ice cream parlors in Nafplio, we walked around the town, had our coffee by the sea, and after a small lunch, we drove back to Athens. We personally loved the trip and so did our friends. They said that it was a unique experience. We know one thing: we had the time of our lives and we are already planning our next event. We’ll let you know in due time! Try to make it this time!
