AWOG Christmas Bazaar 2012

The American Women’s Organization of Greece Announces its 2012 Christmas Charity Bazaar

ATHENS, GREECE – 18 Nov 2012: The most attended and longest-running charity Christmas bazaar in Athens opens its doors again this November. The volunteers of the American Women’s Organization of Greece (AWOG) will welcome Athenians to their version of ‘Home for the Holidays,’ by decorating the first floor of the Ledra Marriott with a warm, cozy American-style holiday décor.

The AWOG Christmas Bazaar is the charity organization’s largest fundraiser. Last year, AWOG raised 17,000 euros which was distributed to several Greek charities. The volunteers hope to raise even more money this year, even with the economic crisis. The bazaar will feature a food court, tables selling crafts and a Grand Lottery which features luxury gifts from local corporate sponsors.

AWOG volunteers will sell home-baked American desserts including apple pie, chocolate-chip cookies, brownies and carrot cake. Hot dogs, chili and other traditional American foods will be available for purchase at the food court. New this year, bazaar goers can also purchase homemade dishes to take home.
The Grand Lottery includes three drawings throughout the day. A one euro raffle means a chance at winning a motor scooter, cruises, airline tickets, hotel stays as well as jewelry, designer clothing and other prizes.

“The bazaar is important to so many: to our volunteers who work months at organizing it, our sponsors who strive to give back to the community and to our charities who benefit from our donations for the year to come,” said Jane Bizos, AWOG vice-president and chair of the AWOG Christmas Bazaar.

“We’re proud as Americans in Greece to organize ourselves once again with the goal of donating much needed funds to Greek charities during such a critical time,” said Mary Latsey-Amvrazi, president of AWOG. “We’re proud to be able to give a special atmosphere of an American Christmas to Athens and all the while giving back to the people who need it most.”

The Solomon Singers will open up the live entertainment by performing traditional American Christmas carols and will be followed by local children’s choirs.
