“Austria in Greece” in the summer 2013

Dear friends of Austria,

In the coming weeks many events will take place again in Greece with the support of the Austrian Embassy in Athens.

26th June, Athens
The Austrian soprano Christine Holzwarth – accompanied by the Polish pianist Agata Lukasiewicz – will give a concert on 26th June at 21hrs at the famous Byzantine Museum ( (Admission is free).


27th & 29th June, Nafplio

During the renowned Nafplio Festival ( the soprano Christine Holzwarth and the pianist Agata Lukasiewicz will perform on 27th June (21.00 hrs, Vouleftiko). On 29th June (21.00 hrs, Palamidi) the Latvian artists Dalia Dendiskaite (violin) and Gleb Pysniak (cello) who live in Vienna will perform. (Admission fee: € 5)


5th -7th July, Kavala

The focus of the international conference “Tobacco Roads: Technology Transfer in the Tobacco Industry during the Early Twentieth Century” (, in which scientists and experts from the fields of technology and technology history, humanities, architecture and Cultural Studies will participate, will be mainly the role of tobacco trade between Kavala and the former Austria-Hungary. The conference is under the patronage of the President of the Hellenic Republic Mr. Karolos Papoulias. In addition to the conference, there will be  a comprehensive exhibition on architecture.


19th/ 22nd July, Ithaka & Lefkada

The Camerata Paetzold – consisting of Prof. Dieter Paetzold and his children Nicodemus (born in 1995), Raphael (born in 1997) and Valentina (born in 2003) – will perform on 19th July in Ithaka and on 22nd July at 21.30 hrs in “Kipotheatro Aggelos Sikelianos” in Lefkada with works by Haydn, Schubert, Brahms, Johann Strauss (jr.), Lehar, Ziehrer and Schrammel as well as with compositions of the Paetzold family.


30th -31st  July, Heraklion

During the Heraklion Festival the Austrian director Martin Scharnhorst will stage the play “Tag des Wahnsinns” based on the philosophical text “La Folie du Jour” by the French playwright Maurice Blanchot. Katerina Vrentzou and Marina Spanaki from the Greek theater group “Kyklos Grafis” will act at this play. The play will then go on tour throughout Greece and will take part in various festivals abroad.

6th August, Pilion
The Austrian narrator Birgit Lehner ( has been invited by the Cultural Association “Agios Georgios Nilias” in order to participate in the Narration Festival “Tales and Myths at the back of the centaur”.


10th -20th  August, Tinos
During the festival of Tinos the Austrian filmmaker Victoria Schmidt will take part in a project, in which experimental filmmakers create films based on 16 mm ectachrome and Super 8 and present them on the island.
