The Athens House of Photography is proud to present the work of Arno Minkkinen.

On October 25th, at 20:00, we will inaugurate an exhibit of his work titled “Palindromes”, which covers 35 years of photography. Attendance to the opening night is free.
The exhibit will last until December 15th.

The exhibit and lecture are supported by NewSchool AthensPhotography and the Athens Photo Festival 2012.
Arno Rafael Minkkinen is a Finnish-American photographer, educator, curator, essayist and screenwriter. Nancy Donahue Professor of Art at the University of Massachusetts Lowell and Docent at Aalto University of Art, Design and Architecture in Helsinki, Minkkinen studied with Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind at Rhode Island School of Design, earning his MFA degree in photography in 1974.Published and exhibited worldwide, Minkkinen’s work can be found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki, the Centre Pompidou and Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris, the Musée de l’Élysée in Lausanne, the Center for Creative Photography in Arizona, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography among many others.Seven monographs on his work have been published: Frostbite (1978), Waterline (1994, winner of the 25th Rencontres d’Arles Book Prize), Body Land (1999), SAGA: The Journey of Arno Rafael Minkkinen, 35 Years of Photographs (2005), and Homework: The Finnish Photographs, (2008), Swimming in the Air (2009), and Balanced Equation (2010). Both Waterline and SAGA, as retrospectives, toured internationally in Belgium, Finland, Sweden, Romania, Slovakia, Italy, China, Canada and the United States. Performing for the Camera: Forty Years of Self-portraiture was exhibited this past spring at Barry Friedman Ltd. gallery in Chelsea, New York.Serving a second four-year term as national board member of the Society of Photographic Education, Minkkinen was conferred the First Class Order of the Lion Medal by the Finnish government in 1992 and awarded the Finnish State Art Prize in Photography in 2006.
The exhibit will last until December 15th.
