Nikos Gotsis established the Marionette Theatre in 1978. In 1957, at the age of 16, he was working as a puppeteer at Kalaitzakis Theatre. Since 1960 and until 1970 he assumed the position of the General Director.

Thanasis Gotsis started experiencing the magical world of marionettes at the age of 8 years old. Since then he never thought of another profession and is now running the theatre established by his father.

The Marionette Theatre “GOTSIS” has contributed in many ways in the manufacturing and movement of marionettes investing in the development of the art. Another area of interest for the people of the theatre has always been the research for the history of marionette and its roots from ancient Greece and Rome to France, England and worldwide.
Since 1978 Marionette Theatre “GOTSIS” has produced 8 plays for kids and 6 for adults.  In 1997 the creation of one of the first websites in Greece was a reality enabling the spread of the information around the art in the Greek audience.

In January 2002 the opening of the Museum and Workshop of Marionette led to an even more effective transmission of knowledge and love around this special art. In the Museum, one can find unique handcrafted puppets and can also attend seminars concerning the craft and the movement.  At the premises of the Museum are also given performances since October 2002.
All these years Marionette Theatre “GOTSIS” has participated in many national and international festivals eliciting flattering critiques and prizes.
