Always excelling in the contemporary urban landscape
Self-Reference of Kostas Spyropoulos to his Painting Work presented at Michael Cacoyannis Foundation

His recent work, through the last years, approaches the image of urban landscape as this is being shaped and functions primarily as an activity space of the late cultural structure. For the painter, urban landscape is integral part of the civic democracy which derives its origin from older strictly coherent social forms. He maintains his interest mainly as an articulated statement of existential essence as well as communication as an inevitably organized field, which negotiates and criticizes the individual liberty. Every youngster grows and experiences urban landscape, as a new Adam or Eve, which is a “menacingly” protective framework which places limits and seeks for comprehension, decoding and consensus.

There is clarity considering the interpretation of spaces which lie harmoniously with the image of the city’s athletes as well as the other forms living and experiencing the environment. The painter’s artworks illustrate at times the inner life of the citizen which sometimes is being tortured while other times is being progressed and comes to fruition in the framework it is being developed, activates and thinks living experiences of everyday life, which have a value unique, erotic most of the times, because since routine is value added it is the completion of conceptual existence.

In the above framework certain versions are being touched upon, characteristic of the civic life, like the city’s limits which threaten the natural landscape, the increasing presence of violence in the streets, the threatening aesthetics of media as well as the misinformation, becomes an implication towards the real knowledge as well as the lacking of conceptual content information. Images are being used as well by mass culture, the pop magazines, the advertising in the world of mass consumption and the mass products. “Every object is beautiful or ugly depending on our point of view…………..”
