TRIBUTE TO RUDOLF NUREYEV
Badminton Theater |

The Paris Opera Ballet is today considered to be one of the world’s finest companies. The average age is 25, making it one of the youngest. Its repertoire is very extensive, ranging from the major romantic and classical ballets to creations by contemporary choreographers. The Ballet currently stages some 180 performances per season in Paris, the French regions and abroad.

Rudolf Nureyev died twenty years ago on January 6th 1993. An exceptional dancer, director of the Paris Opera Ballet from 1983 to 1989, with his vast choreographic culture and his overwhelming sense of theatre, he staged his own versions of the great academic ballets inspired by the original choreographies of Marius Petipa while at the same time endowing the Paris Opera with a wide classical repertoire. He also invited numerous choreographers to Paris and took great care in training a new generation of soloists, thus bringing international recognition to the Company. The Opera Ballet continues to perpetuate the heritage he bequeathed it and regularly programmes his ballets and, on the occasion of the anniversary month of his birth (March 1938), it will pay tribute to him by presenting several extracts of his choreographic works.
