The so-called “gentle” recorder, Flauto dolce in Italian, and the transverse flute, Traverso – or else German flute, because German musicians used to show a predilection for it – were very popular in the High Baroque, namely the first half of the 18th century. Both flute types, Dolce & Traverso, inspired great composers of that time to write a considerable number of concertos for solo flute, usually accompanied by a string ensemble and harpsichord.

The famous “imperial” Ouverture from J.S.Bach’ s second orchestral suite, the “mysterious” night and the “lyrical” goldfinch of the Concertos La Notte and Il Gardellino by A.Vivaldi, three “tender” Menuets from the Water Music by G.F.Haendel, as well as G.Ph.Telemann’ s double concerto in E minor, are only a few of the magical baroque compositions for the Flauto dolce & Flauto traverso.
