The LOVE BACILLUS
Greek National Opera |

GREEK OPERETA

Costas Yannides composed the operetta The Love Bacillus (Der Liebesbazillus) in 1928, when he was living in Berlin. He had just completed his studies beside Kurt Weill, while he was also a close friend of Nikos Skalkotas. The popular music of that era, coupled with the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Berlin, influenced the composer’s musical idiom profoundly. A few years later, he moved to Athens, where he embarked on a brilliant career in both dance theatre and song composition (as Costas Yannides), as well as being a composer of scholarly music (as Yannis Constandinides).
