TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission, “ideas worth spreading.” The program is designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. At TEDx events, a screening of TED Talks videos — or a combination of live presenters and TED Talks videos — sparks deep conversation and connections. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis.
TEDxAUEB was an initiative of the students in Athens University of Economics and Business for the creation of the first TEDxUniversity in Greece in 2013. After the first, second, third and fourth successful events, TEDxAUEB is preparing the next annual event in 2017, driven by authenticity and creativity.
TEDxAUEB 2017: MOSAIC
It’s time to share with you this year’s theme of the fifth TEDxAUEB and the date of the event. We are looking for one word, defined as: ‘a form of art consisting of small irregular pieces of various materials’. It definitely pops up often in your daily life, but is also found in many more places, well hidden and camouflaged. Our whole life is a ‘mosaic’, many different experiences and moments that create memories. In a constantly changing world that moves frighteningly quickly, we chose to pay attention to those small, almost insignificant, as we sometimes think, pieces that make up a much larger picture.
So this year, in Technopolis, on Saturday, 18 March, speakers and performers, will approach the ‘mosaic’ through many, unexpected aspects. Not only from the literal but also from the transport perspective, we will hear about the technique of the mosaic, different cultures, different characteristics internally and externally that create either an integrated personality or a unique appearance and a new geographical perspective that you never expected.
TEDxAUEB 2017 Speakers:
Nasia Paschaleri will explain, why our daily diet should be a mosaic of vitamins, proteins and carbohydrates to acquire our body with the necessary nutrients.
Marie Chalaka, on the scene of INNOVATHENS, will share her personal career story: a route of sequences of disparate positions, irrelevant sectors and fragmented occupations, all apparently incoherent and aimless. Collecting experiences and skills as colorful stones, today, she creates a defined mosaic meaningful and substantial.
Ioanna Sapfo Pepelasi on the scene of TEDxAUEB, will talk about the importance of the concept of the mosaic in today’s Greece and how several factors make it necessary, to combine historical research with practice.
Antonis Ntzegkoutanis will describe us that the painting on the human body creates a mosaic of images, through the physical characteristics and the artistic touches.
George Dasios will talk about the math standards on brain representation, whose composition is likened to that of mosaic, as each region of the brain has a specific function but all together are related and interdependent to achieve the smooth operation of the instrument.
Eleftheria Zourou will explain how essential is the variety in a group concernig to the professional background and the character of its members to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency, based on the composition of the hard and soft skills available. In other words, the composition of each group can be likened to a mosaic where its members both act as individual tiles, and mutually depend and complement each other, creating a perfect result.
Sebastian Erras will talk about the literal meaning of the mosaic as floor and will travel us around the world through the projection of photos from various floors.
Antonis Tsapatakis will talk about each event in his life, that has contributed as a separate tile in his life, having so many different touchstones, that can be paralleled with a mosaic.
Click Ngwere: She will share her experience about the cultures’ mosaic within the greek society.
Fanis Kollias. With a team of people from more than 11 countries, who all together talk more than 20 languages, Solomon aims to exploit the diversity and the variety of our society, a society that could be described as the ultimate mosaic of cultures.
Rain Dove will talk about the body shaming, beauty standards and the individual characteristics that create a beautiful picture that does not follow the standards of beauty.
Olga Goulandris studied in London, History of Art (Birbeck College) and made relevant postgraduate studies (MA, Fine and Decorative Art and Design – Sotheby’s.) She also studied Byzantine and modern techniques of Mosaic in Greece, Italy and the United States. The visual artist teaches the art of the mosaic and has created a group of students entitled “Mosaic Κosmos“, which conducts several artistic and charitable actions.
