Imagine a society where laughing and singing are banned, where colours, music and joy are just not permitted…
There once lived a king in just such a Grey City who prohibited his subjects from doing just about everything. He even locked his own daughter up because she sang one day under the spell of a violin played by a gypsy who had wandered into the city by chance. His heart was so cold that by the time his heart melted the violin had lost its magic… However, just before the violin played its last note, the king began to sing and everything changed forever…

A major opera from the standard repertoire, Gounod’s masterpiece is an opera with wonderful arias, superb choral pieces and ballet.  According to the Director, Renato Zanella, this is a ‘’particularly complex and surreal story’.
The main character, Faust, is the diabolic man who became a legend by selling his soul for the ability to satisfy his every wish. The work also features  Mephistocles, none other than Satan himself in human form, toying with his victims…

A performance created for Stuttgart Ballet, this is one of Renato Zanella’s most representative choreographies in which he employs soaring, hazardous dance moves.

Bolero. Music: Maurice Ravel
The choreography reflects the composer’s original conception, that this be a piece where melody and rhythm compete against each other. In his choreography for this very famous work for a large orchestra, Renato Zanella envisaged women in the role of melody and men in the role of rhythm.
