Sport Relief Sunday 18th March

What is Sport Relief?

Sport Relief was launched in 2002 by Comic Relief UK, a charity which supports poor and disadvantaged people in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries. Sport Relief harnesses the power and passion of sport to change lives for the better. By doing sport, having fun and raising money, everyone can do good, and feel good.
At the heart of the campaign is the Sport Relief Mile – a mass participation event open to everyone, regardless of their athletic prowess or mobility. Members of the public cover a distance of approximately 1, 3 or 5 miles by whatever means they are able.
In 2010, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office teamed up with Sport Relief to host international Mile events, raising £45,000 through 55 Cities and 60 local charities. In 2012, Sport Relief plans to be bigger than ever, as we celebrate the UK’s biggest year of sport.
In March 2012, for the first time ever, a special Sport Relief TV show will air on BBC Worldwide channels around the world. The show will feature all the highlights from the London Flagship Mile and other Mile events around the world as well as classic and brand new Sport Relief comedy sketches.
As part of Sport Relief 2012, the British Council and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office are once again organising Mile events all around the world, to raise money for local charities which help vulnerable people living incredibly tough lives. There will also be a Sport Relief Mile at the FCO in London and at Hanslope Park.
