Mark Titchner is visiting Thessaloniki as a guest of the British Council and the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art to present a programme especially designed for the city in three different central locations.

Titchner is considered one of the most significant young UK artists. He was born in Luton and graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London in 1995. He was nominated for the Turner Prize, the most important UK award in contemporary art, in 2006. He has shown his work in numerous solo exhibitions in London, Los Angeles, Madrid and Berlin, and he has taken part in a series of group exhibitions in the UK and internationally, including the 52nd Venice Biennale in 2007.

The project includes the following works:

Attention and Habituation
an installation of ten videos presented in the Project Space area of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art
The Last Ten Years
a new video installation presented during night hours on the window of the Cultural Foundation of the National Bank of Greece Bookshop
Now for reality
a banner set up in 3 different central locations in Thessaloniki

Titchner will also give a series of talks and presentations on his work and on issues related to contemporary art and everyday reality in general, such as the influence of media aesthetics and vocabulary on the way we see ourselves.

He will return to Thessaloniki in 2012 to present an exhibition especially designed for the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art. The exhibition will be curated by Artemis Potamianou. Further information will be announced shortly.

The presentations will be held in English. The activities are being organised in collaboration with the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, the Cultural Foundation of the National Bank of Greece and the General Secretariat for Youth (Thessaloniki branch).
