Megaron Mousikis |

Born in Jerez de la Frontera, Joaquin Grilo started his flamenco training at the age of three. At the age of 13, as a member of a flamenco company in Jerez and already showing great promise, he traveled to Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem to perform. After only three years of professional experience he became the lead dancer for the Ballet Albarizuela performing in France, England, Switzerland, Israel and Japan, eventually adding Italy, Germany and America to the itinerary. In 1986, Grilo participated in the XI National Flamenco Art Competition in Cordoba and was awarded honorable mention at the age of 18. He has performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London as well as various cities in Japan. In that same year he was invited to perform at the Bienal de Flamenco in Sevilla, Spain. Grilo has won numerous major Spanish flamenco awards and has performed with such leading artists as Luisillo, Vicente Amigo, Paco de Lucia, Antonio Canales, Cristobal Reyes and Joaquin Cortes. After forming his own company, he performed throughout the world, exhibiting an uncanny mastery of all flamenco styles. He approaches his work with unbounded energy and unparalleled skill and in 1997 a nationwide poll selected him as Spain’s best flamenco dancer.
