The Danish Embassy in Athens, in co-operation with the
Danish Institute and the Polis and Kastaniotis publishing
houses, has the pleasure of inviting you to meet one of
Denmark’s most respected and widely-read authors.
Jens Christian Grøndahl (b. 1959) will be introduced and interviewed by Panagiota
Goula, Cultural Attaché at the Danish Embassy in Athens. The interview will be conducted
in English and accompanied by readings in Greek from various works.
Grøndahl’s novels have been published in over thirty countries. He made his debut in 1985
and since then he has produced a substantial body of work, which has received numerous
prizes. In his novels he describes existential and psychological relations, loneliness and love
in all their different forms, distance and emptiness in modern love relationships, and the
illusion of the one and only true love.
The Greek novelist Amanda Michalopoulou of the Kastaniotis
publishing house will participate in the following discussion, which
will concentrate on such themes as modernity, the fragility of
contemporary identity, and the search to understand oneself by using
the past as a mirror.
Jens Christian Grøndahl´s work has been translated into Greek by
Leo Kalovyrnas and published by Polis Editions.
The evening will conclude with light refreshments.
