Il trovatore
Athens Festival 2012 | Greek National Opera |

Il trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi is one of the most typical Italian Romantic operas. In 19th century Spain, gypsies and nuns, counts and rebels fall madly in love and develop feelings of deep hatred around the fire or under the full moon. Strong feelings are expressed through melodious and forceful music, arias and passionate duets, but also famous choruses, which have justifiably offered immortality to this opera. Italian director Stefano Poda, known as a «prodigious magician», is in charge of direction, set design, costumes and lighting.  A multitude of renowned Greek and foreign performers appear in the leading roles, while Dimitri Platanias, who was recently fervently applauded at London’s Royal Opera (Covent Garden) for his performance in the lead of Rigoletto, sings the role of Count di Luna.

Libretto: Salvatore Cammarano, with additions by Leone Emanuele Bardare, based on the play El trovador by Antonio García Gutiérrez.
