“Gastronomy Days-Designation of Origin: Greek” is a distinct-for the Greek reality- effort to highlight Greek gastronomy as well as to promote authentic and unique Greek food products.

It’s for the first time that the cultural dimension of Greek gastronomy is tried to be presented in such a targeted and systematic way. Gastronomy days is a pioneer and benchmarking source of coexistence of the different elements that compose the heterogeneous canvas of the contemporary Greek gastronomy. Therefore, it deserves to be considered as a distinct cultural festival and, at the same time, as a vehicle for the cultural and economic revitalization of our country. For this reason, based on the target to focus on the deeply essential relation between the concepts of “gastronomy” and “civilization”, the location of Gastronomy Days had been decided from the very first moment: This major festival takes place in one of the most important Greek cultural places: Benaki Museum-Pireos 138.

Thanks to its inter-thematic schedule and content, “Gastronomy Days-Designation of Origin: Greek” festival provides a great potential for promotion for new creators, initiatives, products, best practices, gastronomic destinations, etc. “Gastronomy Days-Designation of Origin: Greek” is a high standard cultural experience that has as an additional target group the foreign visitors of Athens. For this reason, the period of the festival was selected to be within May as it’s the starting peak month of incoming tourism in our country.

The thematic activities for the seminar part at the auditorium and foyer of the museum take place: from Friday 24 May 2013 till Sunday 26 May 2013 and hours 10:00 till 19:00.
The tasting activities at the atrium take place: On Friday 24 May 2013 and hours 12:00 – 21:00, Saturday 25 May 2013 and hours 11:00 – 23:00 and Sunday 26 May 2013 and hours 10:00 – 22:00

You can be provided with tickets from Benaki Museum Cashier’s –Pireos 138 at the price of 10€.
General Entrance: 10€
Unemployed-students : 8€
Children under 12 y.o : Free
Sales in advance:www.viva.gr for limited number of tickets  at the price of 8€ and afterwards at the price of 10€.

Honored Destination

The annual term of “Honored Gastronomic Destination” is an important acquis of Gastronomy Days and a benchmarking example which demonstrates that a collective effort of local institutions, people and communities is able to become a useful potential for the enforcement of regional growth.   Aiming at the integrated promotion of the gastronomic civilization of a specific area, every year, a Greek region is invited to Gastronomy days. There, a wide spectrum of possibilities regarding representation, promotion, participation to activities, networking and cooperation with third parties is provided. From this point of view, the “Honored Gastronomic Destination” concept constitutes an initiative of  crucial importance during Gastronomy Days.

Limnos-Honored Gastronomic Destination, Gastronomy Days 2013

 

For this year’s festival, we selected the island of Limnos as the “Honored Gastronomic Destination” during Gastronomy Days.

In cooperation with the Municipality of Limnos, the Food Science and Nutrition Department of Aegean University, local institutions and producers, we have planned and we present you an inter-theme group of activities aiming at the mapping and promotion of the historical and modern Limnos gastronomic civilization.

During the ancient years, Limnos was the granary of Aegean. Nowadays, local institutions, producers and teams unify their forces having as target to develop a benchmarking gastronomic tourism marketing model that will combine Limnos gastronomic heritage with a modern proposition of local growth.

Our synergies with Limnos local institutions proved in practice the contribution of “Honored Gastronomic Destination” concept to the achievement of the objectives of Gastronomy Days.
