We are back, alive and kicking, ready to provide you with ideas, suggestions, and a friendly touch in your life.

We know there are a lot of new people who have just arrived in the country and we do hope we can reach out to them and offer help, advice,

and, above all, our welcome.

We also know that a lot of people have moved to other places and some of them were good friends of ours. These people will leave a gap in our

lives with their absence, but they should know (and we know they do), that there will always be a place in our hearts for them. Fortunately

we see them when they come to visit and we keep in touch. (hi Angelo, Valeria, Alexandra, Gary, Nelly, Ivar, Barbara and all)

Something that has just crossed my mind: why not show each other our holiday photos and exchange views and impressions about places we went

and things we liked or didn’t like on our vacation ?

Nice idea ?. Well, go for it !

Dame Laura Knight, “Three Graces”

Exhibition Curator: Alexandra Van der Staaij

The Herakleidon Museum from September 3rd until November 21st 2010 will present the exhibition with the title: “Woman as Muse, 1900-1950″. The exhibition will showcase about ninety (90) works on paper – watercolors, prints and drawings of the first fifty years of the 20th century, by European artists (including Greeks). The works come from the Museum’s collection, the Greek National Gallery, the Alpha Bank Collection, as well as from the private collections of Mr. George Economou and Mr. Charalambos Leontiadis.

More specifically:

From the Herakleidon Museum’s collection works by Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Henri Matisse, Aristide Maillol, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Paul Landacre, Dame Laura Knight, Theophile-Alexandre Steinlen and Childe Hassam.

We feel that the National Archaeological Museum, Athens is the ideal setting par excellence to display Myrtis. Her reception within the walls of our institution, where so many burial sculptures and funerary reliefs are held, recalls the ancient ritual practice of Dexiosis, whereby the right hand is extended in a gesture of farewell to the dead. The encounter of Myrtis with the youths and maidens on burial stelai at the Museum -Dikaios, Nikocharis, Aristille or Mnesagora- is metaphysical. Through the face of little Myrtis, sepulchral monuments and memorials of the 5th century BC, both eponymous or anonymous, come back to life and talk with us. They remind us of the common human fate, death, but also of its defeat by means of memory. It is no coincidence that Myrtis was declared “Friend of the Goals of the Millenium” by the United Nations Organization.

A series of educational activities, to be announced in the near future, is scheduled for the period of the exhibition.

September 13 – November 30, 2010

The princes of alternative rock will appear on Friday 10 September in Earth Theatre, in Thessaloniki and on Saturday 11 September, in TerraVibe Park, in Athens.

Their success is significant: 6 albums, over twelve millions sales and sixteen year of successful career on top of the world charts.

Maybe the meaning of the name of the band is non-medicine, but their music is genuine and full of energy, like a dose of testosterone. Their songs are erotic, lonely, self-destructive. Through the alternative punk sound they fight against the establishment and they speak about the society apathy, the addiction and the alienation. The figures of Brian Molko express the amphibology sexuality of the songs of the band. Their sound is influenced by Smashing Pumpkins, PJ Harvey, David Bowie, Sonic Youth, Radiohead, Depeche Mode.

Placebo, with a MTV award for Best Alternative Act in their suitcases, return to Greece for two memorable nights, on Friday 10 September in Earth Theatre, in Thessaloniki and on Saturday 11 September, in TerraVibe Park.

One of the most well known tragedies that have been saved was chosen to be presented using as a guide its strong timelessness.

One of the most well known tragedies that have been saved was chosen to be presented using as a guide its strong timelessness. The suffering caused by war and the calamities of being a refugee has always been a part in the history of humanity since the Trojan War until today and unfortunately, it goes beyond geographic borders. Any kind of authority that is exercised with arrogance has had, has and will have disastrous consequences for the people.

In 415 b.c, Euripides chooses to talk about all this through the eyes of the women captives of Troy, that are getting ready, as slaves, to abandon their motherland and follow the Greek victors to a new, unknown land. The sharpness of the denunciation along with the touching poetic sensitivity, distinguish the play as one of the masterpieces not only of the Greek drama, but of the international cultural heritage.
