17.01.2012 Qué Tan Lejos (Ecuador, 2006, 92 min.) de Tania Hermida, con
Cecilia Vallejo, Tania Martinez, Pancho Aguirre, Fausto Miño y Ricardo González.

Esperanza, una turista española, y Tristeza, una estudiante ecuatoriana, se conocen en un bus con destino a Cuenca, ciudad a la cual desean llegar aunque por motivos diferentes. En el camino se encuentran con un paro nacional que bloquea la carretera, por lo que deciden continuar el trayecto buscando alguien que las pueda llevar por lo menos al pueblo más cercano. Durante su trayecto empezarán a conocerse entre ellas con mayor profundidad, y conocerán también un poco más Ecuador y su gente en un viaje que debió durar unas cuantas horas pero que, por motivos diversos, acabó alargándose mucho más de lo previsto.

Paella con ají se puede definir como una fusión entre latinos y españoles en las diferentes experiencias sociales de integración.
“Guamán”, oriundo de Ecuador, es invitado por su compadre, “Coco”, que vive desde hace cinco años en España, disfrutando aparentemente de una vida próspera y cómoda. Guamán, al llegar a España, se sorprende por la belleza de las mujeres, en especial de Jacinta, mujer latina de espléndidos atributos, y de Andrea, española sentimental y tierna, que se lo disputarán. Esta historia de amor transcurre en paralelo al romance de dos adolescentes que están involucrados en una pandilla juvenil y que buscan en el amor algo que dé sentido a sus vidas.
Encontraremos en el carácter de esos personajes situaciones reales cargadas de conflictos sociales y emocionales que aparentemente no existen pero en realidad están presentes en cada escena.

31.01.2012                     El otro (Argentina, Francia, Alemania, 2007, 85 min.) de Ariel Rotter, con María Ucedo, Inés Molina, María Onetto, Julio Chávez, Arturo Goetz y Osvaldo Bonet.

Un habitual viaje de negocios de medio día al interior del país se trasforma en otro viaje. Al llegar al destino, Juan Desouza descubre que el hombre que viajaba a su lado no se despierta. Secretamente, casi como un juego, decide tomar la identidad vacante de este hombre, inventarse una profesión, conseguir un lugar donde dormir… Es la posibilidad de no regresar, de ser otro, de ser muchos. En realidad no hay necesidad alguna de que Juan se cambie de nombre en el transcurso de su viaje. De hecho, se puede decir que no hay necesidad alguna de que viaje. Todo lo que le sucede lo puede resolver —o no— sentado en el salón de su casa. El viaje, los cambios de nombre, sus pequeñas aventuras (encuentros casuales, esporádicos, imprevisibles) son excusas, espacios que Juan se genera para pensar, para analizar, para saber qué es lo que le está pasando. En estos días libres, Juan realizará una travesía hacia el reencuentro de sus gustos, de sus instintos, intentando abrazarse a la idea de que la vida que eligió vivir no es la única posible.

Para Santiago, ser un exitoso diseñador de interiores no supera su rol de esposo de Milli y cariñoso padre de Josefina. El equilibrio de su cómoda vida urbana se desgarra cuando una terrible tragedia destroza a su familia. Reapareciendo en un desolado aeropuerto, en los paisajes helados de la Patagonia, e irreconocible, intenta adormecer su dolor con tareas tediosas. Atormentado por los fantasmas de un pasado inalterable, Santiago debe reconciliarse con el presente para mantenerse un paso más allá de la locura.

14.02.2012                     La cámara oscura (Argentina, Francia, 2007, 88 min.), de María Victoria Menis, basada en el cuento homónimo de Angélica Gorodischer, con Mirta Bogdasarian, Fernando Arman, Patrick Dell’Isola y Carlos Defeo.

En una colonia de la provincia de Entre Ríos, a fines del siglo XIX, una mujer que según el parecer de su familia nace fea, crece siendo una niña poco agraciada que se convierte en una mujer insignificante, casi transparente. Siendo ignorada por los otros, ella no renuncia a ver el mundo que la rodea con un ávido interés por esos pequeños signos de belleza que sólo se perciben si nos detenemos a contemplarlos. Años más tarde, ya casada y con hijos, un fotógrafo francés llega a su casa de campo y será el único que descubra, con otra “mirada”, la particular belleza de la protagonista y su intenso mundo interior.

ΠΡΟΓΡΑΜΜΑ 17.01.2012                    Πόσο πιο μακριά ακόμα; (Ισημερινός, 2006, 92 λεπτά) της Τάνια Ερμίδα με τους Σεσίλια Βαγιέχο, Τάνια Μαρτίνες, Πάντσο Αγκίρρε, Φάουστο Μίνιο, Ρικάρντο Γκονσάλες. Η Εσπεράνθα, ισπανίδα τουρίστρια και η Τριστέσα, φοιτήτρια από τον Ισημερινό, γνωρίζονται σ’ ένα λεωφορείο με προορισμό την Κουένκα, όπου πηγαίνουν για διαφορετικούς λόγους. Στη διάρκεια της διαδρομής όμως, βρίσκονται ακινητοποιημένες εξ αιτίας μιας εθνικής απεργίας. Επειδή έχουν αποκλειστεί οι δρόμοι, οι δυο κοπέλες αποφασίζουν να συνεχίσουν το ταξίδι τους με ωτοστόπ. Αρχίζουν να γνωρίζονται καλύτερα μεταξύ τους, αλλά και να γνωρίζουν αρκετά πιο ουσιαστικά την χώρα του Ισημερινού και τους ανθρώπους της. Έτσι, ο προορισμός τους αποδεικνύεται πως βρίσκεται τελικά πολύ πιο μακριά απ’ όσο υπολόγιζαν .24.01.2012                    Παέγια με πιπεριές (Ισημερινός, Ισπανία, 2007, 80 λεπτά) του Γκάλο Ουρμπίνα, με τους Λουσία Σιρουχάνο, Έντουιν Λασκάνο, Ελένα Έλβα, Λουίς Γιάνιες, Αμαράντα Οσόριο. Το θέμα της ταινίας είναι η επικοινωνία ανάμεσα στους ισπανούς και τους λατινοαμερικάνους μετανάστες και οι διάφορες εμπειρίες των τελευταίων στην προσπάθειά τους να ενσωματωθούν στο νέο τους κοινωνικό περιβάλλον. Ο νεαρός Γουαμάν από τον Ισημερινό, πηγαίνει στην Μαδρίτη προσκεκλημένος του φίλου του Κόκο, ο οποίος υποτίθεται πως ζει εκεί μια άνετη ζωή. Πιάνει δουλειά και αμφιταλαντεύεται ανάμεσα σε δυο συναδέλφους του, την συμπατριώτισσά του Χασίντα και την ισπανίδα Αντρέα. Παράλληλα, ένας άλλος έφηβος μετανάστης, μπαίνει σε μια ομάδα νεαρών περιθωριακών, λόγω του έρωτά του για μια κοπέλα της ομάδας. Στις περιπέτειες αυτών των ηρώων ζούμε καταστάσεις που χαρακτηρίζονται από κοινωνικές και συναισθηματικές συγκρούσεις, που κανείς δεν παραδέχεται αλλά όλοι βιώνουν. 31.01.2012                    Ο άλλος (Αργεντινή, Γαλλία, Γερμανία, 2007, 85 λεπτά) του Αριέλ Ρόττερ με τους Μαρία Ουσέδο, Ινές Μολίνα, Μαρία Ονέττο, Χούλιο Τσάβες, Αρτούτο Γκέτς, Οσβάλντο Μπονέτ. Ένα συνηθισμένο επαγγελματικό ταξίδι μισής μέρας στην επαρχία μετατρέπεται σ’ ένα άλλο ταξίδι. Όταν φτάνει στον προορισμό του, ο Χουάν ντε Σόουσα, ανακαλύπτει ότι ο συνεπιβάτης του δεν ξυπνάει. Στα κρυφά, σαν να πρόκειται για παιγνίδι, αποφασίζει να τον υποδυθεί, να επινοήσει ένα επάγγελμα, να βρει κατάλυμα… Είναι η ευκαιρία του να μη γυρίσει πίσω, να γίνει κάποιος άλλος, να γίνει πολλοί μαζί. Στην πραγματικότητα δεν υπάρχει κανένας λόγος ν’ αλλάξει τ’ όνομά του στη διάρκεια του ταξιδιού. Ούτε καν για το ίδιο το ταξίδι υπάρχει λόγος. Όλα όσα του συμβαίνουν μπορεί μια χαρά να τα λύσει απ’ το σαλόνι του σπιτιού του. Το ταξίδι, οι αλλαγές ονόματος, οι περιπετειούλες του (τυχαίες, σποραδικές, απρόβλεπτες συναντήσεις) είναι δικαιολογίες, μικροί χώροι που ξεκλέβει για να σκεφτεί, για ν’ αναλύσει, για να καταλάβει τι του συμβαίνει. Σ’ αυτές τις ελεύθερες μέρες του, ο Χουάν θα συνειδητοποιήσει πως ξανασυναντά τα πράγματα που του αρέσουν, τα ένστικτά του και πως η ζωή που επέλεξε να ζήσει δεν είναι η μοναδική δυνατή. 07.02.2012                    Γεννημένος και μεγαλωμένος (Αργεντινή, 2006, 100 λεπτά) του Πάμπλο Τραπέρο, με τους Γκιγιέρμο Φένινγκ, Φεδερίκο Εσκέρρο, Μαρτίνα Γκουσμάν, Τομάς Λιπάν, Βικτόρια Βέσιο, Νίλντα Ράγκι. Για τον Σαντιάγο, η δουλειά του διακοσμητή εσωτερικών χώρων δεν είναι πάνω από τον ρόλο του ως σύζυγο της Μίλι και τρυφερό πατέρα της Χοσεφίνα. Η άνετη ζωή του στην πόλη διαλύεται όταν ένα ατύχημα διαλύει την οικογένειά του. Επανεμφανίζεται αγνώριστος σ’ ένα απομακρυσμένο αεροδρόμιο τα Παταγονίας και προσπαθεί να κρατήσει σε λήθαργο τον πόνο του, κάνοντας ασήμαντες δουλειές. Τον κυνηγούν όμως τα φαντάσματα του παρελθόντος κι ο Σαντιάγο πρέπει να συμφιλιωθεί με το παρόν για να μπορέσει να κρατηθεί έστω κι ένα βήμα μακριά απ’ την τρέλα. 14.02.2012                    Ο σκοτεινός θάλαμος (Αργεντινή, Γαλλία, 2007, 88 λεπτά), της Μαρία Βικτόρια Μένις (βασίζεται στο ομώνυμο μυθιστόρημα της Ανχέλικα Γκορόντισερ), με τους Μίρτα Μπογκντασάριαν, Φερνάντο Άρμαν, Πατρίκ Ντελ’ ΄Ιζολα και Κάρλος Ντεφέο. Σε μια κοινότητα της επαρχίας Έντρε Ρίος, στα τέλη του 19ου αι. γεννιέται ένα κοριτσάκι που κατά τη γνώμη της οικογενείας του είναι άσχημο. Η οικογένεια θεωρεί πως το κορίτσι μεγαλώνει άχαρα και πως εξελίσσεται σε μια ασήμαντη γυναίκα, σχεδόν αόρατη. Παρ’ ότι οι άλλοι την αγνοούν, εκείνη δεν παύει να βλέπει τον κόσμο που μας περιβάλλει με μεγάλο ενδιαφέρον προς εκείνες τις μικρές εκδηλώσεις ομορφιάς που διακρίνει κανείς μόνον αν σταθεί να παρατηρήσεις. Χρόνια αργότερα, ενώ η γυναίκα είναι πια παντρεμένη με παιδιά, φτάνει στο αγροτόσπιτό τους ένας γάλλος φωτογράφος, ο μοναδικός άνθρωπος που θ’ ανακαλύψει με άλλη ματιά, την ιδιαίτερη ομορφιά της πρωταγωνίστριας και του έντονου εσωτερικού της κόσμου.

That means that passengers will have to change trains at Omonia.

The MONASTIRAKI station will be open only to the ones who are heading to Piraeus, but closed to the ones heading to Kifisia.

Women interested in singing can join the Solomon Singers,
a women’s choir that meets in the northern suburbs at
St. Catherine’s British Embassy School in Lykovrissi.
Lessons are from 7:30-9:30 every Monday.
The lesson combines exercises for breath and vocal technique while encouraging each singer
to discover her own voice.
In mid-June the choir will present its summer performance.
Repertoire includes pop, jazz and Broadway selections.

A Brief History of Solomon Singers…

In January of 2000, a small group of women friends gathered in a nursery school in Kifissia to sing for fun and relaxation. They were few in number but enthusiastic and dedicated to exploring and using their voices.  In May they gave their first performance in the same nursery school… nine women singing some of their favorite songs.  The next year they took their keyboard and passion for song and began rehearsing in LaVerne University where one of their members was on the faculty.

They grew in number to almost 20 and had their first performances of the Christmas season with events such as the AWOG Bazaar,  Athens College faculty party and their own program in the theatre of LaVerne.  In 2003, they changed location again and began rehearsals at St. Catherine’s British Embassy School where they were regularly featured in St. Catherine’s Christmas Bazaar.
Every summer they finish the season with another concert that draws from a variety of styles…pop, jazz, Broadway musical and the ever-present spiritual.  Since the year 2001, they have opened the AWOG Christmas Bazaar and help to start the season for foreigners and Greeks who attend this charity event.  During the last decade they have grown into an excellent performing group who donate their time to fund raising and community service.

Solomon Singers was born from a love of singing and a director’s belief that exploring the voice is an activity that nurtures the soul and its expression.  The women who sing in this group develop not only their individual voices but also the collective voice of women who share a love of music and creativity.  They laugh, occasionally shed a few tears, and generate a lot of positive energy in a world that needs to feel

all the love it can get in these troubled times. There is a healing power in the voice when it is lifted in song and shared with love…
