You are invited to a walk along the Greek tradition, at the municipal theatre of Papagos on Sunday 25th September at 20.30 .

Τhe admission is free. However, we want to prepare a leaflet and a brief presentation with info about the dances, the costumes, and the music of each area. The programme will include dances from: Thrace, the Cyclads, the Dodekanese, Megara and Asia Minor.

We’d like you to be there at around 19.30 in order to have plenty of time to explain what you are going to see and, of course, to be with you!

Dearest friends,

We are planning a guided tour (En) of The Μuseum of Greek Folk Art (Central Building, 17 Kydathinaion Str., Plaka),

on Sunday the 8th of May at 11.00 in the morning.

We’ll give you all details later.

You don’t want to miss this tour, trust us. The reasons are that the museum is one of the best you can visit to get a clear picture of the Greek tradition and culture and the most important point is our guide, who is a specialist and extremely knowledgable in the field.

So don’t hesitate: contact us to get a group together. The cost will depend on the number of the participants – the more, the cheaper. The entrance fee will be probably halved (1 euro instead of 2) just for us !

The Song-writer of our Hearts (updated 15/3)

Dearest friends,

We have been to a beautiful performance, which we feel you shouldn’t miss!

It’s a performance by Dionyssis Savopoulos, one of the most famous and popular song-writers in Greece.

The performance is for children and adults – we loved it! The subject is Greek Mythology, and more specifically, the creation of the world and the battle of the Titans in the first part.

In the second part he sings some of his most loved songs, like Synnefoula, Dirladada, etc.

The show is in Greek, but we are planning to read the story to whoever is interested beforehand.

There is a lot of dancing, a choir of children on stage, and the whole thing is like a feast.

We would really like you to see it. We went with German friends who didn’t all speak Greek and they loved it.

The problem is that next weekend (19th & 20th of March) is the last one.

The performance is only Saturdays at 18.30 and lasts nearly 2 hrs. and Sundays at 11.30 and 18.30.

The cost is 24 to 40 euros for adults and 12 to 15 for kids, BUT if we can get a group of at least 15 people we can get much better prices.

(we are trying to achieve a 30% discount)

We spent a lovely Sunday morning together with the USA Girl Scouts Overseas

at a very entertaining and educational Theme Park near Keratea.

The theme of the day was “old professions” and we visited the workshops of the tailor, the barber, the carpenter,

the knife sharpener, etc. We were shown around the park by educators and animators, we sat down and had a snack,

and in the end we played treasure hunt.

The park is designed for kids at all school ages, and it can be visited either in groups or individually.

The activities vary according to the season (oil and wine making, honey, bread,etc), the kids are directly involved using traditional

tools and methods.

If you are used to doing your shopping for food in super markets, you might want to change your habits. Due to the fine weather of Greece, there are open-air fruit and veg markets in every neighbourhood on specific days of the week. They are called “laiki agora” and it is not just the fact that you buy things, it is the fun you have talking to the sellers, choosing your own fruit and vegs, meeting people and, last but not least, practising your Greek. The vendors are mainly producers who bring their fresh goodies from their farms to the city. Prices start a little high in the morning but get really low towards midday.

As you may know, we often organize outings at the “Laiki” in groups and we can reassure you that we all find it very entertaining and helpful for ex-pats living in Greece.

Ξενάγηση στο Μουσείο Ακρόπολης για παιδάκια

Μετά από επιτυχημένες ξεναγήσεις στο Μουσείο της Ακρόπολης στα Αγγλικά, Γερμανικά, Γαλλικά, και Ελληνικά για μεγάλους και

εφήβους, μας ζήτησαν να οργανώσουμε μία ξενάγηση για παιδάκια… και επειδή εμείς χατήρι δεν χαλάμε, είμαστε έτοιμοι.

Λοιπόν την Κυριακή 9/1/11, σας περιμένουμε 11.45 μέσα στην είσοδο του Μουσείου. Η ξενάγηση θα είναι σχεδιασμένη ειδικά για παιδάκια από 6 – 8 με 9 χρόνων, θα διαρκέσει 1 με 1,5 ώρα και θα είναι στα Ελληνικά.

Τα παιδιά μέχρι 18 ετών δεν πληρώνουν εισιτήριο εισόδου στο Μουσείο.

CHRONIA POLLA!

After the successful Acropolis Museum guided tours we have organized for teenagers, foreigners, in French, in German, in English, in Greek, we are now organizing a guided tour for little ones (6 – 8 or 9 year-olds) in Greek!

The tour will last 1-1.5 hours, because it has been planned especially for kids and we don’t want to exhaust them.

It will take place on Sunday, 9th January and the appointment is at 11.45 at the entrance.

Kids up to the age of 18 do not pay entrance fee !

We are also planning especially designed tours for kids in other languages, along with other activities that you will love for sure!!!

Young and beautiful at the Acropolis Museum (En)

Being a parent is a handful!!!
Being a parent of a teenager is a HUGE handful!!! Taking a teenager to a museum is ……(you know…). We know, we’ve been there and still are. In order to make your life easier, we had an idea: why not organize a tour of the Acropolis museum, especially designed for young people and their parents? What that means is a very experienced and highly qualified guide (who is a mother of a teenager herself) who knows exactly how to present the museum in a way that will keep everyone happy and motivated. The visit will be on Saturday 13th of November at 11:00 am and please apply soon, because we want to have time to plan ahead.

The guided tour will be in English and it’s not to be missed.

Last Friday (17th September) we went, as planned, to Dora Stratou dance theatre.

The group was multi-national-there were Germans, Swiss, French, Americans, and us.

The performance was colourful, interesting, full of music, songs and nothing like the “tourist”shows you may have seen before.

You really should have come,but get ready for our next one!

Epidavros event: “a unique experience”

Dearest friends,

We came back on Saturday from a lovely 2-day trip to Epidavros and we would like to tell you about it, so that you make sure you join next time.

As we had already told you before, the plan was to prepare the play beforehand and this is what we did on Thursday evening. We had a little something to eat, we read-or better, role – played – Lysistrati, which was a very amusing and useful activity for a number of reasons: we got familiar with the play that we were going to see the following day; people got a chance to unfold talents we never thought they had – some of them are born actors-; and, last but not least, they met and got together with new people!

On Friday at around 17.00 we set off for Epidavros. It took nearly 2 hours, we had something to eat at the restaurant outside the theatre (very good food!) and then we went into the theatre and saw the play. We absolutely loved it and, having read it, it was a lot easier to follow. After the theatre we drove to Nafplio where we had booked a hotel to spend the night.

The next day we visited a photo exhibition with works of Fred Boissonas and saw photos of Greece at the beginning of the 20^th century. Then we had delicious ice cream at one of the best ice cream parlors in Nafplio, we walked around the town, had our coffee by the sea, and after a small lunch, we drove back to Athens. We personally loved the trip and so did our friends. They said that it was a unique experience. We know one thing: we had the time of our lives and we are already planning our next event. We’ll let you know in due time! Try to make it this time!

LYSISTRATE means: “She who ended the War”

Another event we are organizing is a visit to Epidavros on the 16 and 17/7 to watch one of Aristophanes’ most famous anti-war comedies, Lysistrate. Don’t worry about it being in Greek, we will prepare it beforehand. The visit will include a stay at a hotel in Nafplio after the performance, a swim or a walk in Nafplio and a visit to an exhibition of Fred Boissonas in the morning and a relaxed return to Athens. If you don’t feel like driving there, we could all hire a mini van. Just answer in time so that we can organize the whole event better.

Une autre chose qu’on organise est plus tard, le 16 et 17 Juillet a Epidaure. La il y aura une piece de theatre, une comedie d’Aristophane, ‘Lysistrate’. Je vous ecoute dire:’mais c’est en Grec ! Eh bien, on vous prepare avant,on va vous donner la piece en francais,on va le lire ensemble,etc.
