6 DEGREES BELOW THE HORIZON (SHADOWS)
Michael Cacoyannis Foundation |

The dance group Indigo Fera is presenting
a new dance performance
with the title “6 degrees below the horizon”,
choreographed by Rena Konstantaki and Yumiko Yoshioka,
at the Theatre Hall of Michael Cacoyannis Foundation
for three performances, 2, 3 and 4 December 2011.

Yumiko Yoshioka, one of the most important dancers in butoh worldwide is collaborating with Indigo Fera Art Productions and Rena Konstantaki since 2007. In this piece, the inspiration comes from twilight, at the beginning and the end of the day. It is a poetic moment, which allows us to connect ourselves with the beauty of nature, the beauty of life. At this concrete moment there are no shadows. Forms are not very well seen, a new figure, a new shape is appearing, derived from the repetitive process of our experiences.

In this piece we are dealing with the desperate need for contact with others and our self. A struggle with the shadows of others and the shadows of our self, which are integrated in our personalities and symbolize the unknown parts of our personality. Dance, light, video, integrated in a minimal stage design referring to Japanese aesthetic, all these elements create the space in which the performance takes place.

In one hour Yumiko Yoshioka transforms herself from child to adult. She goes through several experiences with many feelings, sliding gradually from innocence to pain and finally to reconciliation. She dances with shadows, which appear and disappear. Ruben Antoniano Villalobos comes out of the world of shadows and dances a duet with Yumiko, disappearing finally in the fog.

Rena Konstantaki and Yumiko Yoshioka have worked together for two other performances, “EN ON’ and “THE SONG OF IRIS”.
