Every year since 1977 International Museum Day is organised worldwide around May 18.

This day is an occasion to raise awareness on how important museums are in the development of society.

ICOM Advisory Committee organises the theme of this event that, given the high number of countries involved, lasts a day, a weekend, a week or even a month.

From America to Oceania including Africa, Europe and Asia, this international event has confirmed its popularity.

These recent years, International Museum Day has been experiencing its highest involution with almost 30,000 museums that organised activities in more than 120 countries.

NOTE THAT: because of the elections on Sunday 18/5, some museums will have a free  admission on Saturday 17/5, and some others on the 18th. Please check before you go !

** On Saturday 17 May 2014. As part of the celebration of International Museum Day, the exhibition of musical instruments from the Museum will be open to the public from 10:00 to 20:00. FREE ENTRANCE

THE ACROPOLIS MUSEUM

On Sunday 18 May 2014, International Museum Day, the Acropolis Museum will welcome visitors with two special gallery talks on the following topics: ‘The hare of the Acropolis’ and ‘The Moschophoros: a new display of an Acropolis masterpiece’. The Museum will be open half-day due to the municipal elections, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with free entry for its visitors.

The National Archaeological Museum

On Sunday May 18th and Sunday May 25th 2014, will be open from 10:00 to 17:00, due to Election day.
